The Process is the Destination

Andrew Hall, founder of The School of Light, created these one of a kind handcrafted silver gelatin prints for an open studio event featuring new works by Avo Tavitian.

Working with the largest available paper size, and using traditional darkroom methods, these stunning prints not only demand attention, but transform the impact of the photographs themselves and fill the gallery space.

Luminous and tactile, these groundbreaking pieces remind the viewer of the powerful possibilities of film.

Looking back and moving forward.

From sensitive portraits to dramatic landscapes, 2016 was another great year for the photography students at The School of Light, with some truly exceptional work coming out of our studio and darkroom.

2017 will bring all kinds of challenges, but we look forward to more inspiring work from our talented students, as they document the world around them and reflect its changing times.
